A man has warned Brits about visiting one area of Turkey due to a “big time scam” that’s doing the rounds.

Scott, known as official_scottylum2 on TikTok, recently posted a video explaining the problem. The content creator, who documents life in Turkey, said there’s one thing tourists need to be “very careful” with in Armutalan, Marmaris.

He admitted he would never advise anyone not to visit the area, as it offers the “kind of vibe” people want when they’re on holiday. But, he also said people need to be “very careful” during their stays.

In the clip, he said: “Try to not bring your bank card out. Me personally, I got scammed for a considerable amount of money. I’m not even going to go into it, but be careful of people looking at you while you type your card number in.

“Be very vigilant here. Now, also be very careful of the drinks here. I’ve made a video about this before. Just be very careful with them.”

He said people need to be mindful of bar staff giving them “concoctions” of different types of alcohol. He also urged people to be careful when ordering fishbowls, and to check what’s in them.

Scott also told people to pay for their drinks one at a time, because some people will be “adding drinks on willy nilly”. He noted that this isn’t common everywhere, but it can happen when you least expect it.

His message was clear to all tourists planning a visit – they need to be on their guard. It’s all about being mindful, and keeping your eye on the ball.

He signed the video off by saying “trust me”, and it’s caught a lot of people’s attention. The clip has since been viewed more than 70,000 times, and people were keen to comment too.

One person who loves the area wrote: “I’ve been to Marmaris for years, and it’s always been fine for me.” Another added: “I lived in Armutalan and was very safe walking home at 2am.”

Some tourists agreed though, and admitted they’ve seen some changes in recent years. One chimed in with: “Armutalan is my favourite but, I’ve just come back, and this year you do need to keep your whits about you. Area is lovely, staffy not pushy at all.”

Another replied: “I don’t like it in Armutalan.” Meanwhile, one more wrote: “I went there about 20 years ago, it was so peaceful. It’s changed so much.”
