In the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Sunday, the Basketball Development Center was opened, which will be the new “home” of the sport in Turkey.
The Turkish president did not miss the opportunity to try the baskets by shooting from a short distance, with the crowd applauding him as he scored a basket.
The basketball development center is built on an area of 70 hectares in Istanbul, and the main hall can accommodate 10.000 fans.
Facilities also include a 1.000-seat field for spectators, three smaller fields with 500 seats for youth teams, a sports high school, 3×3 fields, a hotel for the teams and event spaces.
At the opening, in addition to Erdogan, the Minister of Sports Osman Askin Bak, the Minister of Environment Murat Kurum and the President of the Turkish Basketball Federation Hidaget Turkoglu were also “present”.
