Transportation Support Project for Students from Şişli Municipality
Şişli Municipality is launching a new project to increase the support it provides to education in the face of economic crisis. After announcing a 15 lira scholarship for university students, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan is now launching an application that will cover the transportation costs of students on their journey to university.
Within the scope of this project, university students residing in Şişli and between the ages of 17-25 will be provided transportation support for their İstanbulkart for 8 months. Students will be able to use public transportation vehicles such as buses, trams, metro and ferries free of charge, and their monthly subscription fees will be covered by the Şişli Municipality.
Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan made the following statement regarding the transportation support:
“One of the multiple crises created by the government is also being experienced in the field of education. Today, the minimum expenditure of a university student in Turkey has reached 40 thousand liras. While the lowest retirement salary is determined as 12 and the minimum wage as 500 liras, students are unable to continue their education. Many students cannot come to Istanbul due to the economic crisis. We did not want to remain silent against all these negativities. Following the scholarship campaign we launched for university students, we are also implementing transportation support. We will continue to take steps to provide some relief to our youth in order to overcome the economic difficulties created by the government. Let us not forget that the hope and future of this country lies in our youth. We will stand by our youth under all circumstances and support them with all the means of our local government.”
Applications Begin on September 23
Students who want to apply for the project will be able to submit the necessary documents to the Application Desk at Şişli Municipality as of September 23, 2024. In addition, university students can contact Şişli Municipality’s Solution Center at 444 3 112 to get more information on the subject.
Application conditions:
- Residing in Şişli,
- Receiving formal education at universities in Istanbul (Open education university students cannot benefit from this support),
- Being between 17-25 years old,
- To receive education at state or foundation universities with a 100% scholarship.
Required documents:
- Certificate of residence,
- Student Certificate,
- Explicit Consent Text (containing Istanbulkart information),
- ÖSYM Placement Result Document.
