The German Embassy in Ankara has assured all Turkish nationals that visa procedures for them will not be affected by the newly introduced border controls.

Through an official statement issued on its official X account, the German Embassy said that the visa-issuance process will continue the same as in the past, stressing that this situation will not have any impact on the visa process, Schengen.News reports.

The visa-issuance process for Turkey will continue as usual and will not be affected by this situation.

At the same time, the Embassy emphasised that travelling between borders is still possible and noted that the authorities will increase their efforts to avoid long waiting times at the country’s land borders.

Commenting on the country’s decision to extend controls at all its land borders, the German Embassy in Ankara said that this measure will help the country prevent irregular entries.

Temporary border controls will be implemented within Germany’s borders due to security and migration policy reasons. These controls will allow the prevention of entry for individuals who do not have permission to enter the country.

The Embassy further noted that the measure is entirely in line with the EU law, and the aim of this decision is to ensure safe, orderly, and legal entry into the territory of Germany.

Germany initiated controls at all its land border crossings on September 16. Last week, the German Minister of Interior, Nancy Faeser, said that the controls at all land borders will remain effective for six months. However, she suggested that they may be extended for another period if the irregular migration situation does not improve.

Turkish Nationals Filed Large Number of German Schengen Visa Applications in 2023

Nationals of Türkiye submit a high number of German Schengen visa applications every year.

Data from the Schengen Visa Statistics portal show that in 2023 alone, Turkish nationals filed a total of 253,462 German Schengen visa applications. However, not everyone who applied for the document had their visa approved.

Of the total number of applications for a German visa, 187,388 of them received a positive response, whereas 55,495 received a negative response.

This year, the number of applications for a German Schengen visa has continued to remain high, too.

Taking into account the hassles that Turkish nationals face in obtaining a Schengen visa, the country’s authorities have once again said that they want to reach a visa-free entry agreement with the EU as soon as possible.

The country also said that it remains committed to joining the EU. The accession talks between the EU and Türkiye began in 2005, but they have stalled in recent years due to some disagreements and political roadblocks.
