For all the successes Turkey has had of late, it has not historically been successful against the visitors winning just once in six previous meetings. Despite playing a man down, Turkey defeated Iceland 1-0 in a European Championship qualifier in October of 2015 only to see Iceland outscore the Crescent-Stars 7-1 in the four ensuing meetings. Striker Cenk Tosun has been key to Turkey’s success having tallied 20 goals since 2016 with three goals coming in the last year.

Prior to Friday, Iceland has never won a match in the UEFA Nations League losing each of its first 10 matches then pulling draws in the next four.

This marks the first match Turkey will have played on home soil since a 4-0 win in Euro qualifying in October 2023.
