awaii’s JJ Mandaquit has been named to the USA Basketball Junior National Team for the second straight summer. The Hilo native and former Iolani standout was selected to the 12-man roster for the U-17 team. Mandaquit, a 17-year-old guard currently residing in Utah, was one of 34 players to participate in a training camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which started on June 15 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center. Following a cut down to 19 players on Monday, the committee announced the final 12-player roster on Wednesday. The USA Basketball Junior National U-17 Team will participate in the FIBA Men’s U-17 World Cup, scheduled for June 29 to July 7 in Istanbul, Turkey.
