David Higgins, Gary Murphy, Damian Mooney and Keith Coveney are all chasing glory as they hunt 2024 Legends Tour cards at the Final Stage of Q-School in Gloria Golf Club, Turkey.
Murphy made a handful of starts on the Legends Tour last term while Mooney played all four rounds at the Senior Open Championship including playing round three with Darren Clarke.
Three-time Irish PGA Championship winner David Higgins is looking to earn a full card on the Legends Tour and follow in his father’s (Liam) footsteps and eventually win on the senior circuit.
“I didn’t get my card on the seniors tour last year, but I got to play a couple of seniors tour events. That’s why I’m still playing,” he explains.
“I want to do well on that seniors tour, get in there. I’m looking forward to getting back travelling around Europe and wherever. So that’s my long term goal. But I played a couple this year. I did okay, but I just need to get in full time. It’s not easy getting in just for one or two, you must get in and play all the events. So that’s my long term goal.
“You see Peter Baker there, I played with Peter for the last five or six winters in the Overseas program. Pete’s a lovely player, but the year he’s having it’s all inspirational, you know, you think alright they’re not huge, big, massive golf tournaments. But there’s still that. There’s still my dad who won three times on the scene, I want to win as well. So that’s what keeps me going.”
The Final Stage is played over 72 holes on the New Course at Gloria Golf Resort where a field of 72 competitors and ties will play 54 holes, after which only those players within 8 shots of the final qualifying place (5) will go forward to contest the final round.
