Gladbrook native and Class of 2020 G-R graduate Jordan Sherman officially joined the Times-Republican and Tama-Grundy Publishing staff this week as a marketing representative, and she’s excited to hit the ground running in an area that’s already very familiar to her.
Sherman has returned to her hometown since graduating from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, and her boyfriend has found employment with Bergen Plumbing, Heating and Cooling in Waterloo. It all worked out well as her parents were happy to welcome them back while they save up money to buy a house of their own.
She said she saw the ad for the position in the newspaper and explored many different potential opportunities, but she was excited that Publisher Terry Christensen was willing to take on a recent college graduate and provide the training necessary to help her succeed.
“He was very adamant about that and made me feel wanted, so that’s kind of what made my decision to accept the position here,” Sherman said.
Christensen feels Sherman will be a great fit as she joins the staff.
“We are excited to have Jordan join our team. She had a great personality and work ethic, and she will be well received by our business partners,” he said.
In college, she studied public relations and decided to take a 400-level sales course as a sophomore, and she worked in retail sales at the Buckle in Storm Lake and enjoyed it greatly.
“I got to dive deeper into sales and kind of the concepts that go along with that from there and get more hands-on experience with professionals and BVU graduates,” she said.
In her new role, Sherman will be visiting business owners in Marshall, Tama and Grundy counties, and she’s excited to hit the ground running. While she’s working to reintroduce herself after spending a few years away at college, she’s excited to get involved in the Gladbrook community again as well as the larger area as a whole.
